I am at Washington Square Park by the chess tables most mornings and some afternoons. To get there from Grand Central, walk to the Bryant Park subway station (on 42nd St + Sixth Avenue) and take the orange train downtown to West 4th St, then walk to the SW corner of the park.
Currently I am not charging as a hard rule; I usually say "$5 suggested if you find my chess entertaining." This may change as my game improves, though. I do not gamble, i.e. no "pay the winner."
I play ten minutes on each side, no delay no increment. The park standard is three or five minutes on each side, but I like to let my opponents think a bit, as this tends to make for more interesting games. I enjoy talking while I play, so bring any topic you'd like to discuss and let's chat over a game or two.
